Adamawa State police command has dismissed two policemen and demoted two others over the recent killing of two herdsmen in Toungo local government area of the state. Spokesman of the command, DSP Othman Abubakar, said the punishment was in line with the commitment of the Inspector General of Police to sanitise the force.
“After thorough investigation, two of the policemen were found guilty of firing the shots that killed the two herdsmen and were dismissed from service while the two others were demoted,” Abubakar noted. He said that the dismissed policemen will be arraigned for trial as soon as the ongoing judicial workers strike was over.
Abubakar explained that the dismissed men were a sergeant and a corporal while those demoted are an inspector and a corporal who were demoted to the ranks of sergeant and constable respectively. He appealed to the public to inform the command about activities of bad elements among members of the force, saying the police was ready to sanction erring officers.
It is recalled that a police patrol team had reportedly shot and killed two Fulani brothers after the victims refused to offer N50 bribe each.
